PGA Tour’s Scottie Scheffler, Ludvig Aberg pull out of Wells Fargo Championship

Scheffler is still awaiting the birth of his first child, while Aberg is dealing with knee pain.

Two of Texas’ favorite golfers will not be competing in this week’s Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Scottie Scheffler, the former Longhorn on a Tiger Woods-esque run through the PGA Tour, will miss his fourth-straight PGA Tour event as he awaits the birth of his first child with his wife Meredith.

“I’ll obviously take a break when the baby comes,” Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, said before the RBC Heritage, the last event he competed in. “Up until when the baby comes, I’m going to play this week and then I’ll go home and basically just wait. We’re due at the end of the month [April] ... Like I said last week, golf now is — it never was my top priority, but I do love competing, and I put in the work. It’s going to take another notch down in priority when our child comes. My family still comes first, and we’ll see how the prep work goes.”

Meanwhile, Swede Ludvig Aberg, the No. 1 amateur in the world while at Texas Tech and currently ranked fifth in the FedExCup standings, is withdrawing from the event as a precaution due to some knee soreness.

“I was very excited to tee it up at Quail Hollow for the first time,” he wrote in a statement. “Unfortunately, I’m dealing with a knee issue and after consulting with my doctors, we think it’s best that I take some additional time to rest. I hope everyone has a great week and I look forward to teeing it up next week.”

Scheffler has won four of his last five PGA Tour starts, and the fifth was a runner-up. That includes a win at the Masters, where Aberg finished second. All eyes will be on Scheffler next week to see whether he will compete in the PGA Championship, the second major of the year, which begins on May 16.
