Report: Texas men’s basketball to face UConn in home-and-home series starting next season

The series against the back-to-back national champions will start in Austin.

After playing in the World’s Most Famous Arena last season, Texas men’s basketball and UConn are bringing the action to their home crowds in a home-and-home series beginning next season, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein.

The teams will first play at the Moody Center during the 2024-25 season, and then will move to Storrs, Conn., the following season. Times and dates are not yet known, as is a timetable for an official announcement of the series from the teams.

When the programs met at Madison Square Garden in November, then-No. 15 Texas fell 81-71 to the fifth-ranked defending national champions. Since then, the Huskies have become back-to-back champions and will certainly present a tough obstacle again next season. The series shows a continued commitment from Longhorns head coach Rodney Terry to schedule a tough non-conference schedule, as he enters his third season at the helm and the team’s first as a member of the SEC.

Marquee wins during the non-conference slate could help Texas improve on its No. 7 seed and second-round exit from this year’s March Madness tournament. The Longhorns went 21-13 overall and 9-9 in conference this past season, and finished just outside the final AP poll.
