Tiney Ricciardi Recommends

If there’s one place in Dallas where beer lovers consistently point out-of-towners, it’s the Meddlesome Moth. The Moth may look unassuming from the outside, but inside patrons find an intimate space decked in dark wood and characterized by three large stained-glass panels depicting Elvis and other musicians, a series salvaged from the former Hard Rock Cafe in Uptown. On the menu are shareable plates like seasoned mussels, duck wings and pork belly, listed with suggested beer styles for pairing. Along the west wall are 40 taps hooked up to many little-known or rare brews, things you may have never heard of. Because so many specialty brews come through the door, the Moth is very much a get-it-while-you-can spot.

This Design District hot spot gets both halves of the gastropub thing right: The imaginative, eclectic and even challenging beer list is matched by the well-thought-out and often surprising food. Most of the plates at dinnertime are meant to be shared, and they range from Asian-inflected (seared ahi tuna skewers) to English (pot pies) to full-on fusion (Chinatown fried farro). Not to be missed: the fried chicken-skin chips in a sweet-and-spicy glaze. One of the longest beer lists anywhere - 40 drafts and 150 more in bottles, plus a decent wine list with 20 or so wines by the glass. Brunch Saturdays and Sundays. Full bar. — Mark Vamos, Guide
