Here's your chance to review our star system for rating D-FW restaurants

Dallas, we have a favor to ask: Before we review another restaurant, will you help us review our star rating system? One of the best things about the food scene today is how well you can eat everywhere from swanky spots to taco stands -- not to mention food trucks, pop-ups and whatever new, creative way chefs will be expressing themselves. It’s time to revamp our star system to better recognize the ambitious cooking in those less-formal places. And we want to hear from you.

As a quick refresher, our previous ratings ranged from one to five stars. A 5-star review was top-of-the-scale (“Extraordinary. Defines fine dining in the region”), followed by 4 stars (“Excellent. One of the finest restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth”), 3 stars (“Very good. A destination restaurant for this type of dining”), 2 stars (“Good. Commendable effort, but experience can be uneven”), 1 star (“Fair. Experience is generally disappointing”) and no stars (“Poor”). We also characterized the price of an average dinner; the service, ambience, noise level, wine and cocktail selection; the health-inspection score and various logistical elements. If you like, give the old ratings box a closer look at the bottom of this story.

In the next week, we’d like you to send us your honest critiques. What would you change about our old star system? What would you add? What do you most want to know about a restaurant at a glance? We have our own opinions on the subject, and combined with yours, we’ll create a new system that will be unveiled with my first review next month.
