Dallas' venerable French Room restaurant at the Adolphus Hotel has reopened

Updated Oct. 4. at 4:15 p.m. to include the restaurant's dress code.

For more than a year, the revered French Room restaurant inside the historic Adolphus Hotel in downtown Dallas has been closed for renovations. But now it's ready to make a re-debut.

The French Room reopens to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 4, following its first restoration since the 1980s, according to a statement. With chef Michael Elhert at the helm, the restaurant will offer a seasonal three-course menu, a seven-course tasting menu and an "experimental" 15-course menu. A couple dishes, including lamb saddle for two and wild striped sea bass in salt crust, are said to be finished table-side, offering diners an interactive experience.

Elhert's proficiency is in traditional French fine dining. As we noted in January when he was announced as executive chef, Elhert previously worked under renowned French chef Daniel Boulud, and directed the kitchen at Hotel Lumen's Front Room Tavern.

"The French Room has been a vital part of the history of Dallas," said Anthony Cournia, the Adolphus general manager of food and beverage operations. "We are so honored to welcome guests back for countless more celebrations with a fresh and vibrant take on fine dining as part of the thoughtful restoration."

The French Room closed for restoration in June 2016 as apart of the Adolphus Hotel's multi-million dollar makeover. The hotel is 105 years old.

In addition to restoring the white plaster walls and Italian Murano Glass chandeliers, the Adolphus added two new concepts to compliment the French Room. The first is the French Room Bar, described as "an effortlessly cool" cocktail spot that also serves shareable plates. The second is the French Room Salon, a chic lounge decorated with pieces from Texas artists that were curated by Lucia Simek, an artist and communications manager at the Nasher Sculpture Center. The Salon is situated just outside the restaurant.

Beginning Oct. 4, the French Room restaurant will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 10 p.m. The dress code strongly suggests men wear jackets and women wear cocktail attire. The French Room Bar will be open the same days from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
