Aspiring singers lined up as the 'American Idol' bus stopped in Plano on Labor Day

"Welcome to American Idol, Plano, Texas," said the announcer on Monday morning.

And the crowd of aspiring contestants at McCall Plaza in downtown Plano cheered. They were there to try out for ABC's second season of the rebooted reality TV competition show. Registration started at 7 a.m. and the auditions started at 9.

American Idol sent buses across the country in search of its next cast of hopefuls. The buses will roll through Houston on Sept. 4, and Austin and Oklahoma City on Sept. 6.

From those who just thought it was "time to get out here" like Victoria Stewart to those like Ashton Kuyle, who tried out 10 years ago when he was 16, singers lined up to give it a shot. It's not a long shot, either; American Idol included 13 North Texans last season, which was won by Maddie Poppe and judged by Luke Bryan, Katie Perry and Lionel Richie.
