The cast for Dancing With the Stars: Athletes was announced Friday morning, and it's not short on surprise or talent.
The announcement was made live on a festive set on Good Morning, America. The athletes and pros then gave an early look at their dance moves by holding a dance-off with each dancer holding sports equipment, including lacrosse sticks, ski goggles, fake snow and ribbon.
The sport of figure skating has the best chance of winning, with three of the 10 spots held by Olympic skaters Adam Rippon and Mirai Nagasu and retired skater Tonya Harding.
Rippon and Harding were the names that had slipped into the rumor mill before the announcement. And then there's eyebrow-raising NBA and college basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, towering in surprise over the competition.
The cast ranges from professional sports legends to newly minted stars. The athletes and their partners: Rippon with Jenna Johnson; Notre Dame clutch basketball player Arike Ogunbowale with Gleb Savchenko; Olympic luger Chris Mazdzer with Witney Carson; Olympic snowboarder Jamie Anderson with Artem Chigvintsev; Olympic softball player Jennie Finch Daigle with Keo Motsepe; retired Major League Baseball player Johnny Damon with Emma Slater; pro football player Josh Norman with Sharna Burgess; Abdul-Jabbar with Lindsay Arnold; Nagasu with Alan Bersten; and Harding with Sasha Farber.
The reality TV dance competition will return for Season 26 on Monday, April 30, at 7 p.m. Central.
