Deep Ellum restaurant makes not-so-funny Bill Cosby joke

Deep Ellum restaurant Twenty Seven is catching some heat from Facebook users after writing a questionable Bill Cosby joke on a pillar outside the storefront.

Founder and owner chef David Anthony Temple, known in foodie circles as Chef DAT, wrote the joke that caught at least one passerby by surprise, and not in a good way.

Chef Temple's detractors  say he's promoting rape, but he contends it's just a funny joke.

"If someone is personally attacked and offended by what I say, I will take it down," Temple said Monday afternoon, though he had yet to do so. "I haven't received any notion" that someone wanted the joke removed, he said.

Temple said he in no way intends to percolate messages about rape, adding that his restaurant donates money to Family Compass, which aims to prevent child abuse and neglect.

Twenty Seven opened in January as a fine-dining spot and in February launched late-night hours for thirsty cocktailers in the artsy Deep Ellum neighborhood. Dallas Morning News dining critic Leslie Brenner gave the restaurant two stars in a July review.
