Oprah Winfrey, 'one of the most powerful women in the world,' is coming to Collin County in April

Oprah Winfrey will bring her stirring oratory to Collin County for the Minnie's Food Pantry annual fundraising celebration on Tuesday, April 3.

Minnie's Food Pantry announced Tuesday that she will be the keynote speaker for the Feed Just One gala.

The red carpet for the event will be at 5:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7.

The pantry will honor actress-producer Roma Downey (Touched by An Angel) and her husband, producer-host Mark Burnett (Survivor), with the Minnie Ewing Legacy Award.

Winfrey brought the house to its feet many times during her speech at the recent Golden Globes Awards when she accepted the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement honor. The speech led many to wish out loud that she would run for president of the United States.

Other celebrities slated to attend the gala include Brely Evans (Being Mary Jane), who will host the red carpet; former Major League Baseball player Torii Hunter; and Grammy-winning gospel superstar Donnie McClurkin.

Minnie's Food Pantry, based in Plano, is a nonprofit dedicated to feeding the hungry.

"I have been a student of Oprah's for more than 30 years," said Cheryl Jackson, who founded Minnie's Food Pantry in honor of her mother, via a news release. "I've watched, listened and learned a lot of what has helped me to make Minnie's Food Pantry a national charity. It's an esteemed honor to have the voice of one of the most powerful women in the world, Oprah Winfrey, resonate at our 10-year celebration. It reminds our staff, board of directors, sponsors and the thousands of volunteers, that our work is not in vain. We are grateful."
