Dos Equis' Most Interesting Man says 'adios'

After nine years traveling the globe, courting danger as often as women and charming the pants off American television viewers, the Most Interesting Man in the World is gearing up for his last adventure.

Dos Equis announced Wednesday that Jonathan Goldsmith, the actor who was cast in 2006 as the now-legendary pop culture figure, will no longer be the face of Mexican beer brand. Of course, the company said it a little cuter than that -- in its newest commercial, the Man is heading on a one-way trip to Mars.

"His only regret," says the spot, "is not knowing what regret feels like."

While Goldsmith, now 77 years old, is figuratively tossing his beer salt, Dos Equis promises the campaign will live on. Another actor, who has yet to be identified, will continue the Most Interesting Man in the World's legacy, according to Ad Age.

In an interview with USA Today, Goldsmith says the character who long wished drinkers to "stay thirsty my friends" was in part an adaptation of his real life persona.

"I put all of myself into this character,” Goldsmith told the pub. “What you see on screen was all there long before the this role was created -- the beard, the mischief, the tan. I have a tremendous lust for life that hopefully comes across in my portrayal of The Most Interesting Man."

Goldsmith is also reportedly writing a book entitled Before I Was Interesting, which is part autobiography and part a guide to success.
