Pepsi goes 'Back to the Future' with limited, pricey Pepsi Perfect

October 21, 2015 is the day that Marty McFly travels to in "the future" in Back to the Future II (no, for real this time. It's not one of the many, many fake dates). Sadly, many of the things predicted in the movie haven't come to pass. We don't have hoverboards. There is no Jaws 19. All arcade cabinets were destroyed in the great Mortal Kombat wars of 2007.

But if there's an opportunity to market something new, apparently Pepsi will take it.

That's not just a slick, cheesy video. Pepsi is actually releasing Pepsi Perfect, which is... Well, it seems like it's just Pepsi made with real sugar. But it's in a fancy, "futuristic" bottle modeled after the one Marty receives in the movie, so that's cool, right?

(PR Newswire / PepsiCo)

Pepsi hopes you think it's really cool. Cool enough to spend $20.15 (get it? Because, like... 2015 is the current year) on the bottle that they're marketing as a collector's item. Only 6,500 Pepsi Perfect bottles are being made (though each, apparently, also comes in a "special collectible case."

The drink will be available to order online starting on October 21. I'd tell you where to go, but as of this writing the information on the official YouTube video just says, "Available for a limited time at [URL]."

New York Comic Con attendees will be getting the first crack at obtaining a bottle of Pepsi Perfect. The first 200 fans who visit the Pepsi booth each day dressed as Marty McFly (white high-top sneakers and all) will get a bottle for free -- and early.

So we don't have self-tying shoelaces, but at least we can drop $20+ on a 16.9 oz. bottle of an unhealthy soft drink. Welcome to the future!
