$4,595 for Cinderella's slippers? 5 pop-culture kicks we'd like to take for a spin

Cinderella's a big name in pop culture again. With the new live action version set for worldwide release March 13, Disney's ensured that everyone in America is subconsciously humming Bibbidy-Bobbidi-Boo with a constant marketing thrust.

Surprisingly -- or perhaps not -- savvy "marketeers" are not only targeting the Frozen demographic. They're also pulling out the stops on a slightly ... older group of princesses: Ages 35-55. They've partnered with fashion giants on a number of new Cinderella-inspired lines. Most notably? High-end shoemaker Jimmy Choo in creation of a $4,595 pair of "glass" slippers.

That's a lot of money for a little princess cache. To each her own. But, we decided there were plenty of pop culture inspired shoes we'd like to walk a mile in -- likely for a little less dough and a bit more excitement than a spin around the ballroom. Here are a few favorites:

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones: Sure, sometimes she makes bad decisions based on dudes she likes. And, she's got a teensy-weensy entitlement issue, but there's no doubt  Khaleesi's about to open up a world of hurt on ... well, the entire world. Besides, her horse leather (we're guessing) boots look fab with everything from maxi-skirts to riding pants. Cinderella's pet mice look a little shabby next to dragons.

Laverne Cox: Not a fictional character, though she happens to play one on Orange is the New Black. Cox's own story is a bit like Cinderella, except for the part where its heroine ditched the fantasy and made her own reality. She won the Stephen F. Kolzak Award for advocacy work, and became the first openly transgender person to appear on the cover of Time magazine.  While her character Sophia Burset's outfit choices remain fairly limited, Cox herself rocks sky-high pumps with impeccable flair.

The Salamanca Twins from Breaking Bad: Talk about making an entrance. You never had to guess who was coming on scene after the first time these identical killers crawled across the Mexican desert. Every time they stepped the silver skulls cresting the tips of their cowboy books struck terror - in unison - into the hearts of viewers and their hits alike.

Kimmy Schmidt on The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt:  From the second it hit Netflix last week, Tina Fey's new project made massive waves thanks in large part to the somehow simultaneously plucky-and-sassy lead character. Like Cinderella, but much darker, the show has its heroine locked away in servitude for most of her teen years. When it's finally her time to shine, that's exactly what she does. Among her first purchases upon arriving in New York City? Twinkling, adult-sized light up sneakers.  You do you, girl.

Or with:

Jon Stewart on The Daily Show: Another real-life character turned TV personality, a lot of folks are more interested in who, if anyone, will fill Stewart's shoes. Maybe he didn't even wear shoes behind the news desk during most Daily Show tapings. All we know is that his metaphoric ones will continue to be a topic over his last year as host.
