Budweiser is offering free Lyft rides every weekend -- so you don't drink and drive

The one question drinkers should ask themselves before a night on the town is, How am I getting home?

"Safely" is what Budweiser and Lyft are encouraging with a new campaign called Give a Damn, that offers drinkers up to $20 in free rides on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The campaign, which Budweiser says "aims to make a strong statement against drunk driving," kicks off Sept. 21 and runs through the end of the year.

Budweiser and Lyft previously tested the Give a Damn offer in six states and Washington, D.C. Now the companies are rolling it out to Texas, New York, Colorado, Illinois, Florida, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Georgia and Washington, D.C.

How it works

Every Thursday at 1 p.m., now through Dec. 31, 2017, Budweiser will post a promotional code on its Facebook and Instagram accounts, which Lyft users ages 21 and up can input to receive a $20 ride credit (two $10 one-way rides), according to a statement. The credit can be redeemed Thursday through Saturday between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Budweiser will give out 10,000 credits per weekend to both new and existing Lyft users across the 10 eligible markets. It's unclear whether drinkers will be able to receive credits on more than one weekend or whether credits will expire if you don't use them. (We've asked and will let you know.)

But the point is clear: Don't drink and drive, y'all.
