Ooh la la! Dallas Design District gets an upscale lounge

New lounge and tapas bar Quill feels royal. Dramatic. With its arched ceilings and emerald green touches, it's very much a lounge, not a bar. You might want to wear your most stylish outfit, just saying.

Quill Lounge comes from Apheleia Restaurant Group, the company that operates the fine-dining restaurant Oak next door. The same folks also run El Bolero and Pakpao Thai, both in the Design District, and a brand-new burger joint called The Royale in West Plano.

There's some star power at Quill, with Joseph Palladino (co-owner of Nick and Sam's Steakhouse) and chef John Tesar (top toque at Knife and several other Dallas restaurants) partnering with the Apheleia group on the project. In other words: Come here to eat and drink like the fanciest Dallasites do.

The lounge is mostly about cocktails and Champagne. And bottle service, if you're into that kind of thing.

Co-owner Richard Ellman plans to have a DJ spinning regularly.

In the VIP room, guests can be treated to private, customized dinner from the menu(s) of Oak or Nick and Sam's, Ellman says. That special room is called the Ink Room, because that's where deals get signed.

Quill opened March 3. Get your pens ready.

1628 Oak Lawn, Dallas, Texas. Dinner and cocktails Monday through Saturday, 4 p.m. until "late."
