One of Dallas' best and most prominent hip-hop artists Sam Lao announced her pregnancy on Mother's Day with the release of a poignant new music video. Much like Cardi B, Lao plans on continuing her musical career as a mother.

Accompanied by piano and minimal production, Lao abandons rapping altogether and sings softly in her latest single, "Catch You." The video features an appearance by the father to-be, Jeremy Biggers, a local director and artist who recently painted a two-story mural of Selena in Oak Cliff.

Lao confirmed that she is now six months pregnant and was able to keep the secret from fans; only family and close friends knew.

"I'm a musician," Lao says. "When a woman gets pregnant or decides to start a family, people assume she is going to stop. I didn't want to deal with any of those possible preconceived notions."

"I will be continuing to make music," she adds. Lao hopes to drop her next album, the followup to 2016's critically acclaimed SPCTRM, by the end of the year.

Lao admits to being inspired by Cardi B, the female rapper who revealed her pregnancy with a live performance on Saturday Night Live last month. Lao has performed live while pregnant, too, but she saved the big reveal for Mother's Day.
