Texas woman finally proves Selena sang to her husband, and the photos went viral

When the photos of the Midland concert were shared on Twitter, Selena fans rejoiced.

For Aleena Acosta, the tale of Selena Quintanilla singing to her uncle was like an urban myth in the family.

"When I was in high school, Selena serenaded me at a Midland concert," her tio would say.

The 18-year-old from Kermit wouldn’t believe her uncle, Rey Carrasco, until she saw proof. The story had been confirmed by relatives on both sides of the family since she was five years old, but still seemed too good to be true.

Acosta’s aunt, Mary Carrasco, who is married to Rey, finally found the long lost photos that had been misplaced between moving from West Texas to Dallas to then returning back to West Texas. All along, the photos were in boxes packed away with other old memories. Mary said she couldn’t believe she randomly found them as she searched for old Easter photos.

She snapped the photos with her cellphone and sent Aleena a simple text: “Now do you believe me?”

The pictures captured an endearing moment at the Midland Chaparral Center in Texas, where Acosta's uncle looks starstruck by the stunning Mexican-American singer. Selena sang her "Que Creias," a hit about betrayal and love and pulled up Rey to the stage. The photo has gotten more than 35,000 retweets on Twitter.

Mary remembers that weekend well. She and Rey were highschool sweethearts and dating that spring of 1993. He got tickets for the concert, but Mary was heading out of town. Instead, Rey went with his sister. The two were super fans and got spots right up to the front row.

Now that the memories are not lost forever and thousands shared the moment, Mary is still hoping for a video of the night to come out of the viral moment.

“I wish he would have had someone recording it. I looked online to see if there was a performance. Nothing yet, but we will see,” she said.
