JMBLYA has become one of the biggest single-day annual music festivals in Dallas. With its lineup geared heavily toward cutting-edge hip hop with a dash of EDM, it's basically a Christmas-morning type jubilee for the high school and college set.
Last year, 25,000 people commingled on the hot asphalt of Fair Park to catch sets from Lil Uzi Vert, Migos, Gucci Mane and Chance the Rapper. It seems a similar scenario will likely take place again, as Migos is one of the main headliners performing at this year's fest, too.
A recent announcement also revealed North Carolina-based rapper J. Cole will take the stage. Having sold millions of records over the past decade years, and playing to packed arenas across the country, he's the biggest commercial name on this impressive bill.
Also announced is Cardi B of "Bodak Yellow" and Amazon Super Bowl commercial fame.
There may not be two names in hip-hop more talked about in the past year than Migos and Cardi B.
And that's saying a lot, given that when Migos performed at last year's JMBLYA in the afternoon, they were already scorching hot on the power of its smash hit single "Bad and Boujee."
The Dallas date for JMBLYA is Friday, May 4, to be held again at Fair Park. Dates for Austin and Houston are set for the following Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Other performers include "Magnolia" rapper Playboi Carti and Texas hip hop legends Bun B and Trae tha Truth. Produced by Austin-based ScoreMore Shows, JMBLYA will expand from the two-day, two-city format to become a three-day, three-city traveling show that includes Houston.
As has been the case for previous JMBLYAs, Texas-based charities will benefit from some of the proceeds; victims of last year's Hurricane Harvey will be some of the largest recipients.
Anytime many thousands of young people pile into one parking lot, adjustments will need to be made from one year to the next. According to the news release announcement, this year's festival will feature more free water filling stations, double the number of food vendors, and bigger bars.
