Fort Worth's Fortress Festival has announced the lineup for its second edition, and it's clear that landing big names that cross genre borders continues to be a big part of its focus. Sardonic balladeer Father John Misty and Australian indie songwriter Courtney Barnett will headline the festival in Fort Worth's cultural district on April 28-29.
This announcement means indie rock fans will be especially busy this spring. Jack White and British shoegazers Slowdive, who performed at Fortress last year, are both playing in Dallas that same weekend.
For its first edition last year, Fortress not only offered an impressive lineup with Run the Jewels and Purity Ring headlining, but also showed a ton of promise as it navigated tricky weather conditions and a smattering of logistical issues. This year's lineup may not be as bombastic on the surface, but the farther down you look, it's every bit as intriguing as last year's enjoyable bill was.
The only true hiccup last year pertained to navigating the considerable distance between the two main stages. According to the press release announcing the artist lineup, however, festival organizers "have addressed attendees' concerns from the inaugural year with regard to the distance and overall entry process between the main stages and will announce soon a new, unified layout to alleviate these issues for audiences."
Of course plenty of others will join Father John Misty and Courtney Barnett, highlighted by The Voidz, which is the rock project of Julian Casablancas from The Strokes, art-pop act tUnE-yArDs, Grammy-nominated, North Carolina emcee Rapsody, Wu-Tang Clan member RZA, featuring Stone Mecca, and Waxahatchee, who offered possibly our favorite album from 2017 with Out in the Storm, among several other artists from around the country.

Local standouts featured on the bill include country buzz-bearers the Texas Gentlemen and the Vandoliers, as well as rock acts Henry the Archer and Peal Earl. Tickets for Fortress Festival are on sale now. Visit www.FortresFestival.com for more information and tickets.
