Slayer calls it quits, but not before announcing one more thrash through Dallas

Many bands stumble upon "creative differences," argue a little bit, and call it quits. Then there's metal band Slayer, which decided to retire, but not before a grandiose thrash across the country to commemorate the band's nearly 37 years.

Slayer has released 12 albums and has played 3,000 concerts across the globe, says a statement from the band. They've won two Grammys and had an exhibit in the Smithsonian Institute. Not bad for a bunch of long-haired punks who have been scream-singing about serial killers since the early '80s.

On Slayer's final tour, the band will stop at the Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum on June 19. Lamb of God, Anthrax and others will join them. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 26.
