5 best New Year's Eve concerts in Dallas and Fort Worth in 2017

For the D-FW music lover, New Year's Eve thankfully represents more than just a chance to don a glittery paper hat while drinking Champagne past your bedtime. Judging by this year's selection of NYE shows, 2017 will end with one of the better local concert nights of the entire year. Here are our favorites:

Randy Rogers Band at Billy Bob's Texas

The combo of the Randy Rogers Band, Billy Bob's and NYE couldn't be more fitting. For 15 years now, Rogers and his group have been a reliably stellar outfit in the crowded, competitive Texas country scene. The guys just got back from Nashville, where they recorded their new album with super producer Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton), so maybe there'll be a new song or two mixed in.

buzz and twang to boot. Former Dallas dweller Charley Crockett has moved to Austin and now tours the country with bands like red dirt country greats the Turnpike Troubadours. Blending together Crockett's vintage-flavored tunes with the Rustic's killer food and festive overall vibe should make for a memorable Dec. 31.

With Walker Lukens at 7 p.m. at the Rustic. Free general admission with online RSVP. Details.

Jonathan Tyler & Friends at the Granada Theater

For the tenth year, local southern rocker Jonathan Tyler will host the NYE shindig at the Granada Theater. Similar to last year's event, he's bringing some musical buddies with him as well as his wife, country-rock queen Nikki Lane. But don't lose sight of the fact that the two most talked-about countrified bands from Dallas in 2017 -- the Texas Gentleman and the Vandoliers -- will close out their triumphant years in the historic Greenville Avenue venue as well.

At 9 p.m. at the Granada Theater. Details.

Ishi at Trees

It basically feels like NYE every weekend on the streets of Deep Ellum, but Ishi at Trees will take your evening to another level. For a decade now, JT Mudd's dance-rock project has been one of the best live acts in town, and his music just might be the most NYE-worthy show on this date.

With Broncho at 8 p.m. at Trees. Details.

Dead Flowers at Main at South Side

Catching one of the best rock bands in town would be a fine choice, but seeing that band playing the songs of one history's greatest bands is a big idea for a big night. On the heels of Dead Flowers' fierce new album last month, Corey Howe and crew will bridge the gap between 2017 and 2018 by paying tribute to legendary garage rock punks the Replacements, a band that served as a major inspiration for Howe during the writing and recording of his group's new LP.
