Famed string band Old Crow Medicine Show will bring its Blonde on Blonde tour to Dallas on Tuesday, Nov. 14 for the group's first Dallas show since 2015. The tour supports the album the band released earlier this year, in which the Ketch Secor-led Old Crow Medicine Show reimagined Bob Dylan's seminal 50-year old Blonde on Blonde record.
The Grammy-winning group has long been tied to the Nobel Prize-winning Dylan. In 2004, the band released "Wagon Wheel," an addictive, sing-along song Secor wrote around the lyrics of a Dylan outtake from a bootleg recording he had heard years prior. That song has gone on to become not only a platinum-selling single for the group, but also as a mainstream country hit for musician Darius Rucker.
It's not surprising the band continues to honor Dylan's work, as he's been cited as the band's greatest influence.
To be clear, though, there is a ton of OCMS material not associated with Dylan worth celebrating. 2012's Carry Me Back and 2014's Remedy are both stellar efforts that were near the top of many year-end lists of best country and bluegrass records.
For almost 20 years, Old Crow Medicine Show has blended bluegrass, country and folk with a punk attitude. Before the Avett Brothers and Mumford and Sons brought their own flavor of rowdiness to roots music, Old Crow Medicine Show was selling tons of records and packing venues around the world.
Having never played in Dallas' famed Arts District, seeing the band inside the gorgeous Winspear Opera House will be quite a treat.
