Say, what's all this new jazz on The Oasis? 

The smooth jazz brand that's been around for nearly three decades was recently rebranded OasisDFW.com. Rather than a steady stream of non-curated standard hits, the playlist is now roughly 50 percent new music. 

Headquartered out of the CBS Radio building on Central Expressway, The Oasis is available 24/7 at OasisDFW.com and on 103.7-HD2 in addition to CBS-owned Radio.com. It's also available at the TuneIn app.

"We'll have an incredibly broad swath of music," program director Cameron Smith said. "Clearly, we're going to have the hits, but we'll be embodying what modern jazz is now."

That means new releases and different genres of jazz with Andy Brooks (6-9 a.m.), Smith (9 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Ian Miller (5-10 p.m.) guiding the playlist as on-air hosts. The syndicated "Dave Koz Show" will air at 10 p.m. to midnight and 2-4 p.m. Sundays. 

It's a new play on an old brand. In Dallas, The Oasis was established in 1987 on 106.1FM and finally on 107.5FM through 2006. 

Smith announced the station's launch while on-stage at Koz's concert Saturday at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The announcement was met with a standing ovation from longtime Oasis fans, Smith said.

"Lots of people were in tears," he said. 

Smith, who admitted that he's passionate about jazz, certainly is well-connected. He hosted morning shows on The Oasis from August 2001 to March 2002 but left to focus on his TV program, Smooth Jazz Television. Smith has a history of producing jazz concerts in Texas and around the globe.

Smith, who is a senior account director at CBS Radio, said he felt the need for a reboot of The Oasis. Brian Purdy, CBS Radio market manager, asked Smith to create a viability report.

"We were excited about the opportunity to relaunch with a fresh new sound that was hosted, especially with so many cars with HD technology and more people becoming more comfortable with streaming audio," Purdy said. "We felt there was a significant under-served market."

Smith said resources were committed to the effort, and now his task is to update the playlist with 9,000 to 10,000 additional tracks this weekend. 

"We want you driving home listening to a Snarky Puppy song, then we might go into Stan Getz, maybe some Miles Davis," Smith said.

If rebranding The Oasis is a success, does that mean it will return to FM?  

"It's true that that's been done in the past," but for now, the focus is growing the brand, Purdy said.

Smith also said he's committed to the rebranding effort.

"I just want to super-serve the Dallas-Fort Worth market," he said.
