Willie Nelson to play two intimate shows at Granada Theater in Dallas

[UPDATE Nov. 18 at 12:30 p.m.: Tickets to both Willie Nelson shows sold out immediately. More on that here.]

Mike Schoder, owner of the Granada Theater in Dallas, has seen Willie Nelson perform live 10 times, but never at his own venue. He will, however, be able to cross that off his bucket list in January when the Red Headed Stranger stops through for a two-night concert run.

Willie Nelson and Family are scheduled to play Jan. 3-4, 2017 at the venue on Lower Greenville with opening act Runaway June. Tickets cost $125 and go on sale Friday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. via granadatheater.com.

Schoder received the "dream come true kind of call" from Nelson's camp a couple months ago, and while he's not entirely sure why the outlaw country legend is looking to play an intimate theater, he believes it will be a banner moment for Granada. The venue, which just celebrated its 12th anniversary, has hosted the likes of Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton and even Adele before she hit super-stardom.

"There’s nobody that could ever trump Willie Nelson in Texas at the Granada, are you kidding?" Schoder says. "Nobody alive."

Nelson comes to Dallas on the heels of a concert at Billy Bob's Texas' 35th anniversary party and a record crowd at Austin City Limits music festival in the state's capital. Nelson was supposed to play a gig in Midland, Texas on Nov. 13, but postponed it due to illness, according to Wide Open Country. His publicist, Elaine Schock, confirmed the tour will continued as scheduled on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

At just over a 1,000-person capacity, Granada Theater will undoubtedly mark two of the country musician's most intimate performances. (The show will be standing room only.) According to GuideLive's records, the last time Nelson played Big D proper was at House of Blues in 2012, though he did sell out the Eisemann Center in Richardson as recently as 2014.

At $125 a head, Nelson ties Granada's highest price for a concert ticket; in 2010, Keith Emerson and Greg Lake played the venue for the same amount. It seems like a fair price to pay to see an 83-year-old legend.

"The sweet things in life are a lot of times just based on timing," says Schoder. "For us to be able to host [Willie Nelson] for two nights, ya know, at this point in his career, it’s incredible."
