Jon Bellion unites through music at House of Blues show

We're all family, we're all humans, regardless of our origins or the color of our skin. That's what Jon Bellion told Dallas at his July 2 concert in House of Blues Dallas. "Look to your left and your right," he said. "You all came here because you wanted to hear the same music. Music unites us."

With an energetic crowd singing along passionately, Bellion finished his performance (pre-encore) with "Hand of God," an emotional song that connected him to his audience and left even the newest fans (me) screaming for an encore. It was a fitting end to a tour named after his most recent album, The Human Condition.

Bellion's fervent momentum and his evident happiness created a familiar, exciting atmosphere, but it was his uinquely catchy songs that really inspired the crowd to join in. From the popular "80's Films" to the easy-to-sing-along-to "All Time Low," each song is relateable and original at the same time.

In an unusual stunt, Bellion beat-boxed his way into "Maybe IDK," looping his voice to sing every part of the song; only a handful of audience members had witnessed that live before. He built it up slowly, beginning with only the beat before adding in the instruments and melody. "Maybe I don't know, but maybe that's okay," Bellion belted with the audience. And though his single "Guillotine" is new, almost everyone in the sold-out venue was singing along.

His "Jim Morrison" encore left the crowd wild. The audience threw their hands in the air as Bellion three times said, "I need you all to do one thing, when the beat drops;" (Wait for it, wait for it, nope the beat still hasn't dropped--) "rock (the f---) out." Twelve-year-old Patrick joined Bellion on stage to motivate the crowd even further.

Known for his collaboration-abilities, Bellion's prowess in song-writing was evident through his creatively distinct new pieces.

Bellion's openers -- Blaque Keyz and SonReal -- both had strong performances, but they mainly set the stage for Bellion's long-awaited and high-energy performance. Blaque Keyz reappeared on stage in "Weight of the World." Bellion's stage-presence was powerful and certainly never boring; whether he was roaming the stage, dancing along, or simply sitting with the microphone, he put passion and soul into every song.
