The best EDM songs for your next workout

Here you'll find every bit of EDM you might need to speed up your workout this week, so get up, throw on some clothes, grab a water bottle and get started. Oh, and don't forget your headphones, they're the most important part – aside from exercising.

Tiesto

You can't go wrong with one of the pioneers of EDM. Along with creating his own songs, he also offers a variety of pop remixes for those of you out there who aren't yet ready to go all in with the lyric-less beats of core EDM. If you're looking for a song or artist to wake up and start your workout with then Tiesto is perfect.

Tritonal

With beat drops that sneak up on you and lyrics that don't drown you with repetitiveness, you won't trudge up a beat more lively than these guys. Like all good EDM artists, each of Tritonal's songs can stand together or alone. When creating playlists I always like to sprinkle their songs in as randomly as possible because each note has a feeling of its own. Every 30 seconds you get to experience a new underlying beat, so you'll never get bored during a workout with Tritonal. If their sound doesn't give you the juice to run faster then I don't know what will.

Zedd

I'm honestly not sure if anyone has done more pop remixes and duos than this artist. Featuring artists like the newly revived Kesha, Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan and Matthew Koma you'll find just about every kind of EDM-Pop that exists. Don't be afraid to delve into Zedd if you're worried that all there is are his overplayed songs on the radio. There is so much more, and most of it is just as good or better as the few pieces who happen to crawl onto the Billboard Hot 100.

Broiler

This is probably the closest thing there is to trumpets when listening to EDM. Let these DJs stun you with their ability to take you from a strong lyrical verse to an emotionally powerful electronic finale. Runners who like short bursts of speed should listen to Broiler to dig up enough determination to sprint, rather than stumble, home. Plus, with songs like Money featuring Bekuh Boom you'll forget any thoughts of appearing too gross and sweaty to be in public.

Cash Cash

These guys lend me the energy to push for one more mile on my bike, or two, or 10. With one of the most balanced mixtures between beats and lyrics you can't go wrong with them. Lots of people have heard of their hit Take Me Home, but if you're that hipster who won't listen to anything that's playing on the radio then you still have hope. There's plenty more tunes of theirs that you haven't heard. On the other side, if you're a pop hit lover then you'll find those melodies too, but you might end up becoming that person that everyone thinks is insane because you're dancing on a street corner.

Galantis

They literally have a song called Runaway. There really isn't a better way to tell you to go start training than that. Maybe you are running away from home or sneakily running away from an awkward situation, but you'll always need to run. Give this duo a chance and embrace the pain that comes with daily activity while learning to love it.

Major Lazer

Dance is exercise too, by the way. It just looks kooky when you're dancing by yourself -- maybe that's why they invented Zumba, so that we could all be weird without looking like we had embraced our inner hysteria. But this artist still works even if you're not rocking out on yoga mats with a crowd you've never met. Furthermore, while snapping to the beat is always welcome with Major Lazer's songs, snapping is not exercise and clapping isn't either.

Matthew Koma

Build up your self-esteem with his sound. He's not afraid to put emphasis on loving yourself and living with individuality. You exercise so you can feel better, and he'll give you that burst of energy that it takes to get out of bed, put on your running shoes and get going. While he's great for your workout, he's also superb for alarms, so hurry up and get out of your house -- without stopping at Starbucks along the way.

Odesza

If you're looking for EDM with a simpler beat, this is who I turn to when I want to have a calm but long bike ride. Every one of their songs are light on its use of powerful EDM chords, but they also lack heavy lyric use which offers the chance to focus on what's being said rather than hearing a single line blare through your headphones over and over until you're wondering if the song ever ends. But while you're contemplating the meaning of life, the sanctity of your friendships and what you want for lunch today, don't forget that you are supposed to be working out.
