Anyhow, Nesmith and The Monkees just released a new song called "She Makes Me Laugh," a pop ditty that was written by Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. It's the band's first release in 20 years.

Says Stereogum: "You can hear Cuomo's efficient hooksmanship in it, but musically, the song is a whole lot closer to the Monkees' jangly style than to anything we've ever heard from Weezer."

Billboard calls it "everything we've come to expect from The Monkees."

The album, available May 27, features the three surviving band members, Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Nesmith. At least two of them will perform in the 50th Anniversary Tour that makes a stop at Dallas' Winspear Opera House on June 28.

Dallas guy Michael Nesmith has said he won't perform in the 50th Anniversary tour.

Nesmith writes on Facebook: "Please don't make your decision about buying tickets to the Monkees show based on my possible attendance" -- which he says is a "1 in a million" chance. He's writing a book, he says.

Surely the band will play No. 1 hits “Last Train To Clarksville,” “I’m A Believer” and “Daydream Believer” in addition to the new stuff at the Dallas show.

This summer, the band will also release The Monkees TV show on Blu-ray for nearly $200.

Guest writers on the new album include Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie (“Me & Magdalena”), Andy Partridge of XTC ("You Bring The Summer”) and a Noel Gallagher/Paul Weller collab ("Birth Of An Accidental Hipster”), according to a statement from the band.
