Denton singer hand-picked to perform at Bernie Sanders rally

Denton singer Jessie Frye has increased her profile significantly in the local scene of late, thrilling audiences with catchy rock anthems and outside-the-box pop visuals. But this week brought Frye an interesting career first, the kind of opportunity that's limited to election seasons.

Frye was asked to perform at an upcoming Denton event honoring Bernie Sanders, her preferred 2016 Presidential hopeful.

The Vermont senator, who has shaken up the Democratic party's nomination race and is currently marathon-campaigning for upcoming primaries, will be the focus of a Valentine's Day rally in Denton on Sunday. Speaking on the senator's behalf will be former Texas ag commissioner and Sanders supporter Jim Hightower.

Frye reported to her social media followers yesterday that she'd been asked to play at the event, scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at an as-yet-undisclosed location in Little D.

We didn't hear back from the Sanders campaign (they've been a little busy in New Hampshire) as to what inspired their Texas organizers to contact Frye, but the artist herself helped illuminate the situation.

"I was contacted by his official campaign via email this weekend," she tells us. "Said they needed a band to pump up the rally and said they're big fans of mine.

"The fact that they love my music and asked me to help represent Bernie was pretty mind blowing. I still haven't fully processed it yet."
