Smashing Pumpkins hit Dallas on acoustic tour this spring

Add another to the list of high-profile concert announcements: Alt-rockers Smashing Pumpkins are coming to Dallas this spring.

The band announced a 19-city cross-country trek Monday, an extension of last year's "In Plainsong" tour. It hits Majestic Theater on April 18 with singer-songwriter Liz Phair.

The "In Plainsong" tour is partly an acoustic affair featuring some Smashing Pumpkins tunes, as well as others from front man Billy Corgan's solo and side endeavors. The tour did not hit Dallas last time around, but the band did stop by Gexa Energy Pavilion with goth god Marilyn Manson in what GuideLive contributor Darryl Smyers called a night of "campy fun."

"Alternating between the punishing power chords of 'Bullet with Butterfly Wings' with the more gentle musings of 'Tonight, Tonight,' Corgan and crew were spot on all evening." -- Darryl Smyers, reporter

After the tour, Smashing Pumpkins will return to the studio to record new material, according to a post on Facebook.

The last time Liz Phair came through Dallas was in 2011 when she played Granada Theater. If asked why she decided to jump on tour with the Pumpkins, we're guessing she'd say, "Why Can't I?"

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, Feb. 5 on the Smashing Pumpkins' website. Citi credit card holders, however, may access pre-sale tickets beginning Tuesday, Feb. 2 via Citi Private Pass.
