Playlist: Great songs from bands coming to D-FW in January

The first few weeks of the year are notoriously slow when it comes to finding worthwhile live-music options. But concertgoers aren't totally out of luck this go-round. We've got classic rockers, '90s alternative heroes, chart-topping rappers and a country chanteuse rolling into the area. Here's a playlist of tunes from the acts that will light up stages in the coming weeks. Listen to it via Spotify below.

Party Static, "Mr. Sexypants"

This song is one of the many kicks in the gut from the endlessly fun local band's 2015 cassette My Cat Doesn't Like That. There should be plenty of partying and meowing when the band hits the stage at Three Links on Jan. 2. threelinksdeepellum.com.

Todd Rundgren, "Hello It's Me"

You heard Dallas' own Erykah Badu sing some lines from Rundgren's classic tune on her new mix tape. That's just one example of the 67-year-old artist's long-spanning influence on music. Rundgren will perform for a special evening at the Granada Theater on Jan. 20.

Blood, Sweat & Tears, "Spinning Wheel"

Somewhere between the worlds of funk and classic rock lies this hit single by the brassy long-running group. What's new with the band as it goes into its Eisemann Center gig on Jan. 23? For starters, former American Idol runner-up Bo Bice is now the group's featured singer.

Frankie Valli, "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"

Here's another brassy tune from a legacy act that never gets old. Valli and his group, the Four Seasons, were the subject of the hit musical Jersey Boys for a reason -- their story is drama-packed and their songs are undeniable. See them dig up the classics at the Catholic Charities of Dallas Bishop's Gala on Jan. 23 at the Hilton Anatole. catholiccharitiesdallas.org.

Kacey Musgraves, "Late to the Party"

This song by the East Texas country star is one of the most casually romantic we've heard. It'll sound amazing when Musgraves and her band step in front of a rapt audience at the Majestic Theatre on Jan. 21.

Josh Ritter, "Where the Night Goes"

At 39, the Americana star continues to draw steady crowds who are into his imagery-packed story tunes. Check out this highlight from his latest album, Sermon on the Rocks, before he brings his Royal City Band to the Granada Theater on Jan. 15.

Primus, "My Name Is Mud"

Les Claypool has fronted this experimental rock band since the '80s and has always been able to pull in new sonically adventurous fans of all ages. There are probably plenty of folks just as excited to see Primus on Jan. 17 at Verizon Theatre as they are the night's headliner, Tool.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, "Downtown"

This recent single from the divisive Seattle rapper is one of the more all-over-the-place tracks to hit radio in a long time. It has the potential to drive some purists crazy, but there's nothing wrong with those throwback beats and the presence of Melle Mel and Kool Moe Dee. Macklemore and his recording partner, Lewis, will play the WinStar World Casino and Resort on Jan. 15. Ticketmaster.

G-Eazy, "Drifting"

For rap that's more rooted in present-day trends, try this track by Cali MC G-Eazy featuring Chris Brown and Tory Lanez. The new album When It's Dark Out recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/hip-hop album chart. G-Eazy will perform a sold-out show at the Bomb Factory on Jan. 31.
