Foo Fighters release Austin-recorded 'Saint Cecilia EP' for free

Foo Fighters fans were treated to a new batch of tracks Tuesday on the band's official website, after a countdown clock had reached zero. The best part? They're totally free.

The five-song Saint Cecilia EP was recorded entirely in Austin between the two weekends of the Austin City Limits music festival earlier this year. Described by frontman Dave Grohl as the swan song to the Sonic Highways tour, this new EP is a footnote to the album's stunningly solid rock vibe.

Grohl also attached a letter to fans with the new EP, discussing everything from the production of the album, which started in Austin, to the tour being cut short by the Paris attacks earlier this month and the recording of this EP in the Saint Cecilia Hotel. With all of this, Grohl wanted to take the time to reflect on recent events.

"I felt the need to write this foreword in light of the heartbreaking tragedies of Nov. 13th, as this project has now taken on an entirely different tone," Grohl wrote.

He then goes on to discuss the process of recording Sonic Highways and how important it was to him and his bandmates. He said with this chapter now closing, it may be time for the Foo Fighters to take a bit of a break.

"So tonight, as I sit in my Berlin hotel room on our final tour for this album, counting down the days until we return home, I can't help but wonder when we will see each other again," he wrote. "Who knows? But, with everything Foo Fighter-related, it will only be when it feels right. And that's a feeling that's easy to feel."
