Willis Alan Ramsey returns home to Dallas for Aug. 14 show

On Friday, esteemed singer-songwriter Willis Alan Ramsey will be back in his Dallas hometown for a live gig at Poor David's Pub.

For about four decades, you had a better chance of bumping into Bobby Fischer, D.B. Cooper and J.D. Salinger having lunch together than you did of seeing the reclusive Ramsey.

But a few years ago, the Highland Park High School grad began touring again. Back in 1972, he released the great self-titled album with songs like "Muskrat Love," "Ballad of Spider John" and "Northeast Texas Women." America, Captain & Tennille, Jimmy Buffett, Waylon Jennings and Jerry Jeff Walker covered songs from the album.

For the last five years or so, he's been threatening to release a second album called Gentilly, which he recorded in Texas but planned to mix near his new home in Colorado. But there have been some glitches.

In 2009, he built a studio in a Loveland, Colo., industrial park. In 2013, a biblical-scale flood hit it. So, we'll keep waiting.

In the meantime, you can hear all of his songs live and in person Friday at Poor David's Pub.
