Arlington's Globe Life Park will serve as the launch point for a new music festival this summer that aims to showcase a diverse lineup of bands in a uniquely immersive experience.
TimeScape, as it's known, will bring three live music stages to a lot outside of the ballpark on July 18, each with a complimenting ambiance, according festival founder Jon Stephens. Headliners include electronic producers RJD2, STRFKR and Tokimonsta, but Stephens promises more bands, including local talent, will be announced soon. (See full lineup below.)
Back to the setup, TimeScape will have what Stephens calls three music "landscapes," which make the event sound like a hybrid art installation, EDM rave and Holi festival. Bands will be assigned to a stage based on their vibe, so to speak.
First is the Garden stage, which will be decorated with over-sized pinwheels and feature deep house DJs, Stephens says. This is the mellowest of the three stages. Next on the spectrum is the Cavern, a covered tent that will host more high-energy dance music and spew attendees with colored powder. The experience climaxes, if you will, at the Live stage, which Stephens says will have full bands and live instrumentation (read: no button-pushers).
Bands on this stage will be "forward-thinking, avant-garde live acts from diverse genres," says Stephens, citing hip-hop, indie and livetronica.
TimeScape chose D-FW for its debut because of the size of the market and its artistic infrastructure. And despite other locals fests like Lights All Night and Something Wonderful, Stephens believes there's demand for it here. He expects 6,000 attendees in Arlington before expanding TimeScape to five or 10 other cities nationwide by year's end.
The festival's success in Arlington will in part be contingent on the weather, or more accurately TimeScape's ability to provide a reprieve from the summer heat. Stephens said the festival grounds will have ample shade, but declined to elaborate on any extra measures that would be taken to keep attendees cool.
Those details, as well as additions lineup, will be announced closer to the event, he says.
