Gretchen Peters' "Independence Day" gets new life at the ACM

Thanks to my colleague Sarah Blaskovich for letting us know in this piece that Martina McBride will perform "Independence Day" during the Academy of Country Music awards show at AT&T Stadium on Sunday night. Let us not forget who wrote the hit song. That would be the great Gretchen Peters.

Sarah wrote this:

Blast from the past: Martina McBride will sing "Independence Day." McBride will offer up a '90s hit during a performance at the ACM Awards. The song comes as a surprise since McBride released new album Everlasting last year. But it does show off her wide vocal range and remains one of her most popular songs.

And here is my review of Gretchen Peters' incredible new album, Blackbirds.

Catch up on the day's news you need to know.

Or with:

Peters has written hit songs for so many people, including Etta James and Bryan Adams, but I love hearing her sing her own songs. As many of you know, she has performed quite often in the Dallas area, including several appearances at Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse. She also co-wrote one of the songs performed in the recent concert episode of ABC's hit show, Nashville.

I also love the fact that if you buy her new CD via Amazon.com, you get four bonus tracks -- including "Independence Day."
