Former Edge DJ Mark Schectman will host a local-music show on The Ticket

Frequently praised for its insightful and entertaining music discussions during sports shows, Dallas' The Ticket (1310 AM and 96.7 FM) has announced that it will take a significant step toward becoming a local-music destination on the airwaves. A two-hour Sunday night music program, The Local Ticket, is set to premiere on the station March 22, and here's the real treat: It'll be hosted by local radio veteran Mark Schectman (pictured).

D-FW listeners know Schectman for his advocacy of local music at his previous station, KDGE-FM (The Edge), where he aired show-length blocks of tunes by area acts and sponsored live local concerts. From The Ticket's release:

"The Ticket has become so much more than just a sports station," says Schectman, who has been named Best Radio DJ in Dallas and Best Local Music Advocate by the Dallas Observer. "It's a cultural hub for the Metroplex and an incredibly important part of the local music scene."

Ticket program director Jeff Catlin says in the announcement that the new local-music show arrives after a "grass roots effort by our listeners."
