Coyote Drive-In Lewisville has closed because of lack of business.

"The theater just simply wasn't as busy as we had predicted. We are evaluating some strategic alternatives for the drive-in and the property," company officials said in a statement.

The drive-in movie theater's website and Facebook page confirm that the drive-in movie theater is not showing any films right now. It invites fans to go to the outdoor movie theater in Fort Worth.

Since the news was posted to Facebook on Sept. 27, hundreds of comments have flooded in from fans, and Coyote Drive-In Lewisville answered many of them with notes like "We appreciate your support" and "Please come out and enjoy the cooler weather at our Fort Worth location soon!"

The Fort Worth drive-in movie theater opened in 2013 and had a quiet investor in surf-rocker (and drive-in movie theater enthusiast) Jimmy Buffett. The Lewisville theater opened in 2016. Both offered homegrown, small-town charm to North Texas, which is stocked with indoor movie palaces with fancy additions like recliners and full-dinner service.

The Lewisville theater, located off of the Sam Rayburn Tollway in Lewisville, not far from Nebraska Furniture Mart, offered a far-away feeling from all the hubbub, our Brentney Hamilton reported when it opened.
