Alamo Drafthouse is heading to Frisco, and it's bringing free video rentals

If you love movies and live in Frisco (or just hang out at The Star a lot), good news: An Alamo Drafthouse theater is headed your way.

The theater will feature eight screens and will be part of The Hub at Frisco Station, an entertainment sector on the northwest corner of Warren Parkway and the Dallas North Tollway that will also sport restaurants and retail stores. Don't make plans to see The Avengers 4 there, though. The Frisco Alamo Drafthouse isn't expected to open until sometime in 2020.

Alamo Drafthouse locations have been popping up in D-FW as if Oprah is handing them out (and she was just in Frisco last month."You get a movie theater, and you get a movie theater!"), so sure, a bit of the excitement might have worn off at this point. This will be the seventh location in North Texas, joining recent openings such as Irving and upcoming openings such as Denton.

The Frisco Alamo Drafthouse will set itself apart, though, with a bar concept called Video Vortex, which will be part bar and part video rental store. And yes, "video rental" does include VHS tapes.

"Video Vortex reimagines the classic video rental store with free movie rentals, themed cocktails, and 32 local draft beers on tap," a statement from Alamo Drafthouse reads. "Along with Blu-ray and DVD titles, the curated Video Vortex rental collection will feature rare VHS tapes and genre releases, including many titles never released on digital formats."

The catch for the free rentals is that you'll have to be a member of Alamo Drafthouse's loyalty program, Victory (don't worry, it's free to join), and the rental is only free for a week. After that, you'll incur late fees. But hey, if you really want to keep watching Manos: The Hands of Fate after that first week, you should probably just buy it, right? (Note: I do not know if Manos will be available to rent, but in my dream scenario it is.)

If you're looking for a job in Frisco in about a year or so, the Drafthouse also expects to hire for roughly 150 positions when the Frisco location gets closer to opening.
