It sucks to waste your money and your time on bad movies. Of course, your individual enjoyment is subjective, but here are five films in theaters this week that were panned by critics — either our own or reviewers from elsewhere on the internet.

The Equalizer 2

The Boston Globe calls this sequel "a narratively and visually muddled disappointment, one that regularly confuses numbing brutality with vicariously thrilling righteous vengeance."

The First Purge

Critics are fairly split on this Purge prequel, but Cary Darling at The Houston Chronicle says, "Unfortunately, despite a strong start and some action-movie pleasures throughout, "The First Purge" is a little too heavy handed, routine and ridden with logic problems to make its points stick."

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

"It's amazing how run-of-the-mill this big-budget blockbuster about giant prehistoric creatures feels." Read my full review.

Superfly

"In the end, Superfly is as it was advertised: a stylistic gangsta movie. If you see it hoping it will change your life, that's on you, not the movie." Read Dawn Burkes' full review.
