Among the international cinema delicacies and Oscar hopefuls at the Venice Film Festival, which wrapped last weekend: Brawl in Cell Block 99, a slow-burning exploitation movie homage that eventually more than delivers on the violence promised in the title.

The producer is Dallas  Sonnier, a Park Cities native making a big-screen splash with his Cinestate shingle.

A bulked-up Vince Vaughn plays Bradley, a former boxer who falls on hard times, enters the drug trade, goes to prison and gets bloody. Really bloody. He also beats up a car with his bare hands. Ouch. The movie is slated for an Oct. 6 release date.
