10 movies to keep an eye on this fall

Ah, fall. The leaves change, the air chills and summer blockbuster season evolves into ... fall blockbuster season?

If you didn't get your fill of big films over the past few months, don't worry. A lot more movies are coming before 2017 ends, especially as we approach the holidays. In fact, there are far too many (both big and small) for most people to devour in a reasonable amount of time. So here are 10 that we're hopeful will be worth paying attention to for one reason or another. (Note that schedules frequently get bumped around in the movie biz, so opening dates may change.)

'It' (Sept. 8)

Stephen King's famous story with a super creepy clown returns to the screen for the first time since the 1990 miniseries of the same name. Seven outcast children face off against a shape-shifting creature that seems to be connected with recent cases of missing children. This film is the first part in a planned duology.

Or with:

'Battle of the Sexes' (Sept. 22)

A lot rides on a single tennis match in this drama-comedy loosely based on real events. Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) battle it out not just for glory, but over respect for women in the sport.

'Blade Runner 2049' (Oct. 6)

Director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) revisits the iconic world of Ridley Scott's neo-noir cult classic in this sequel to the 1982 original. Ryan Gosling stars and Harrison Ford returns in this sci-fi story that people already have a lot of questions about.

'My Little Pony' (Oct. 6)

I'm not going to insult any young moviegoers by pretending to know a lot about My Little Pony, but I do know that it's very beloved and therefore the movie will probably be popular. The original voice cast from the TV series is joined by big-name guest stars including Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth and Liev Schreiber for an animated musical fantasy.

'A Bad Moms Christmas' (Nov. 3)

Last year's Bad Moms was a surprisingly decent raunchy comedy about the trials and tribulations of motherhood. If we're going to be subjected to more raunchy holiday movies in 2017, we might as well enjoy one with Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell and Kathryn Hahn.

'Thor: Ragnarok' (Nov. 3)

If you liked the last two Thor movies but thought they didn't look nearly enough like an '80s sci-fi fantasy movie, then boy, do I have some good news for you. Ragnarok sees the titular Norse god (Chris Hemsworth) teaming up with the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and everyone's favorite trickster god, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), to take on a very metal-looking Hela (Cate Blanchett). Also Jeff Goldblum is there, because why not?

'Murder on the Orient Express' (Nov. 10)

Based on the beloved Agatha Christie novel and both directed and starring Kenneth Branagh, this suspenseful mystery has a long list of strangers and suspects that is absolutely star-studded. Seriously, look for Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Josh Gad, Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe, Leslie Odom Jr. and so many more.

'Justice League' (Nov. 17)

Wonder Woman gave audiences and critics alike hope that maybe, just maybe, the DC Extended Universe can be saved. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice left something to be desired, but we're holding out hope that this superhero mashup has plenty of fight in it.

'Wonder' (Nov. 17)

What's a holiday season without a case of The Feels? Wonder, based on the best-selling book of the same name, is the story of a fifth-grader born with facial defects who is going to public school for the first time. Julia Roberts, Daveed Diggs and Dallas' Owen Wilson are among the adult cast members, while acclaimed young actor Jacob Tremblay (The Room) has the starring role.

'Coco' (Nov. 22)

It's been a couple of years since Pixar released a movie that isn't a sequel, so there's hope for this animated movie about music, a boy, his dog and a journey to the Land of the Dead.
