'A moment I still haven't recovered from:' Faye Dunaway opens up about infamous Oscar mixup

In an interview with NBC's Nightly News' Lester Holt on Monday, Dunaway broke her silence admitting that "it's a moment I still haven't recovered from."

It's been two months since that wheels-off night at the Academy Awards.

Faye Dunaway has been in Dallas, attended the Dallas International Film Festival and collected the festival's Dallas Star Award. This month, Turner Classic Movies featured her work and FX's Feud: Bette and Joan brought up her name when her portrayal of Joan Crawford.

But Dunaway, who rarely gives interviews anyway, hasn't said anything about that night in Hollywood when she announced the wrong winner for best picture.

Dunaway offered few surprises in the interview. Co-presenter Warren Beatty and PricewaterhouseCoopers revealed a few details and Dunaway confirmed a few.

Dunaway said she thought Beatty was stalling for effect. She grabbed the card from Beatty and read La La Land as best picture rather than Moonlight.

"The show was going late, and I was trying to tell him 'C'mon, let's get on with it.' And I read the name of the film on the card ... and it was the wrong card," Dunaway told Holt on Tuesday's Today Show.

The series of unfortunate events started when PricewaterhouseCoopers partner Brian Cullinan mistakenly handed Dunaway and Beatty the back-up envelope for best actress in a leading role.

Dunaway said she read the movie's title on the card but didn't notice Emma Stone's name.

In a matter of seconds, Dunaway and Beatty became more known for their onstage mishap than when they played "Bonnie and Clyde" in these parts 50 years ago.

Holt asked whether Dunaway felt angry.

"No, I was very guilty," she said. "I thought I could have done something, surely. Why didn't I see Emma Stone's name on top of the card?"

Holt asked: Can the two of you laugh about it now or it still too soon?

Grinning, Dunaway replied: "Not really."
