The next episode in the 'Star Wars' saga is named 'The Last Jedi'

We can all stop saying "Star Wars: Episode VIII." Disney and Lucasfilm have finally given what they call "the next chapter in the Skywalker saga" a name: Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

They gave no plot details beyond that -- they just reiterated that the film is written and directed by Rian Johnson (Looper, Brick), and that it's scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 15.

But of course when you give fans a title like The Last Jedi, imaginations are going to run wild. Who is the last Jedi? Is it Luke Skywalker? Is it Rey? Could it even be Kylo Ren?

And then there's the fact that the word "Jedi" is plural as well as singular, so the film's title might not apply to just one person. It might apply to a group of people.
