The next 'Spider-Man' movie, starring a new Peter Parker, has a name

Marvel and Sony made big waves when they announced a deal that would allow Spider-Man to appear in Marvel Cinematic Universe films like Captain America: Civil War and (maybe) the next Avengers movie. Then they made waves again when they announced that young actor Tom Holland would be donning the mask as a high school-age Peter Parker. Then again when Spidey made an all-too-brief appearance in the trailer for Civil War.

The studios hope to keep riding that wave with a new standalone Spider-Man movie, which now has a name: Spider-Man: Homecoming. The news was announced at CinemaCon, a film event taking place now in Las Vegas.

The movie is expected to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.

You might be able to make educated guesses about the plot based on that title alone (again, Peter Parker is supposed to be in high school, so... y'know), but the name could also be seen as a not-so-subtle reference to the fact that everybody's favorite webslinger has come "home" to Marvel Studios.

According the Deadline, Cinemacon attendees also got some new footage of Holland as Peter Parker. In the clip, "Parker enters his home to find Aunt May with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Stark tells Parker that he has applied for a special grant, and that he has been accepted. This is all news to Parker."

The same night that the title was revealed, Tom Holland was on the red carpet for Captain America: Civil War, where he talked about stepping into the shoes as Spider-Man for the first time.
