First 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' trailer has AT-ATs, Rebels and awesome action

I would make a joke about many Bothans dying to bring us this trailer, but everybody knows that Return of the Jedi quote is about the plans second Death Star. Rogue One, the first Star Wars spin-off film, is about stealing the plans for the first.

But how much introduction does this trailer really need, anyway? It speaks for itself pretty well. And it's awesome. Keep in mind, though, that it's not a trailer for Star Wars: Episode VIII. The story of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren will continue in 2017. This is an "anthology film" set in the Star Wars universe.

Next time my boss and I have a disagreement, I'm going to tell her, "This is a rebellion, isn't it? I rebel."

The trailer debuted on Good Morning America this morning and immediately took the Internet by storm. Sure, it's got tons of "classic" Star Wars elements, like AT-ATs and that looming Death Star, but it also just looks like a cool movie on its own, even without the Star Wars wrapping.

The prequel movie stars Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) as one of the Rebel soldiers sent on a task force sent to steal the plans for the Death Star, ultimately leading to its destruction in the original Star Wars film.

Also, it's got a dude that can kick a stormtrooper's butt using only a stick.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16.
