Dallas author Ben Fountain will see another of his stories brought to the big screen

Dallas author Ben Fountain has already had one novel turned into a movie. That's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk, which will be hitting theaters later this year. Oscar winner Ang Lee directed.

But now he's got another story in the film pipeline.

The Hollywood Reporter announced Tuesday that Fountain's short story "Near Extinct Birds of the Central Cordillera" is on its way to the big screen. John Krokidas (Kill Your Darlings) will direct.

The story is the first in Fountain's 2006 debut story collection, Brief Encounters With Che Guevara.  It's a darkly comic tale of a graduate student kidnapped by Colombian rebels as he observes rare parrots.
