Get comfy: Netflix amping up original show production in 2016

If you thought binge-watching Netflix was already devouring your social life, prepare yourself. In 2016, Netflix is doubling its original production. Goodbye sunlight, hello couch.

The streaming service will produce a total 31 scripted shows, according to Verge, including 10 feature films, 30 kids' shows, 12 documentaries and 10 stand up comedy specials. Ted Sarandos, the company's chief content officer, announced the news at the recent UBS Media Conference.

"It's not just a lot volume," Sarandos said. "This is quality stuff."

Upcoming releases include Chelsea Does, a mini docu-series featuring Chelsea Handler; Love, a series about relationships by Judd Apatow starring Community's Gillian Jacobs; Fuller House, the reboot of '90s sitcom Full House; Jadotville, a war film based on the true story of the Siege of Jadotville; and Stranger Things, a series about a boy who vanishes into thin air.

Several beloved series are also expected to make a return next year, such as Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Narcos, and the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
