The Mend, Dallas native John Magary's jagged comedy, comes to Big D

Among the breakout films at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival was a jagged little comedy called The Mend. It was written and directed by John Magary, a 1996 graduate of Lake Highlands High School. And now it will get a one-night Dallas theatrical run, this Sunday at the Texas Theatre.

The film stars Josh Lucas and Stephen Plunkett as brothers whose lives are falling apart in slow motion. It has the fierce, unhinged and spontaneous feel of a John Cassavetes drama, cut with a dose of dark comedy. The Mend has been garnering some stellar reviews, including one last Friday from The New York Times. Now Magary's hometown can get in on the action.
