Your time and money are valuable, so you should invest them in good movies. Here are some films in theaters this week that have been approved by our in-house critics and/or reviewers from elsewhere on the internet.

The New York Times says, "[Julius] Avery deftly orchestrates some grisly, intense set pieces. He delivers on the thrills, even if the story leaves something to be desired."

The Grinch

Variety says, "Cumberbatch, in his droll and tasteful way, respects the grinchiness of the Grinch: that he's a force of mischievous mayhem who represents something in all of us - the potential to be bad when unhappiness takes over."

Boy Erased

According to The New York Post, Boy Erased is "an affecting, not-quite-hard-hitting story that ultimately touches the heart."

A Private War

"A fact-based feature film both celebrating and illuminating the disappearing, dangerous art of the war correspondent," says The Seattle Times.

The Houston Chronicle says, "Not a lot happens in Mid90s but as a slice of teenage life, it feels almost like a documentary from that time, full of well-observed - if foul-mouthed and sometimes dangerous - moments that ring true."
