Map claims Texas' most popular fast food is In-N-Out, is fake news

Maps about individual states' favorite [blank] can be fun. What's Florida's favorite movie? What do people from Colorado Google more than other states? Etc. But sometimes, those maps can seem a bit, uh, inaccurate.

Like this new one from Business Insider, which claims that the most popular fast food chain in Texas is In-N-Out. Yeah, the highly overrated burger joint (yeah, Californians, I said it).

How'd they come up with such an incorrect answer? "Business Insider teamed up with Foursquare to determine the most popular fast-food chain in each state," they say. "For the study, we looked at which chains received the most visits on average in every state based on the total number of visits to each chain divided by the number of locations in that state."

Very scientific. Also very wrong.

Let's be real: Texas pride spurs many Texans to say that Whataburger is their favorite fast food joint. Well, that and their delicious food. Others might have different answers (like Chick-Fil-A, which dominated the vast majority of Business Insider's map), but how many of you would really say that In-N-Out is your favorite, given all the options available to you?

OK, maybe this girl would. But she's the exception.

So what gives? As a fellow GuideLive writer Brentney Hamilton put it, "Texans hate In-N-Out, but we're also completely overrun with Californians now." Could be. Or maybe the methodology for gathering this data is just incredibly flawed.
