'Avengers: Infinity War' has crossed over with 'Fortnite,' making for one massive mashup

People everywhere called Avengers: Infinity War the biggest crossover media event of all time. So why not take it one step further and pair the biggest movie in theaters right now with the biggest video game being played right now?

Marvel Studios and Epic Games have announced that Thanos, the big bad supervillain at the heart of Infinity War, is invading the world of Fortnight: Battle Royale. The "limited time mashup" event begins Tuesday.

According to Entertainment Weekly, which broke the news, Thanos will be part of a separate "Infinity Gauntlet" mode. In most ways, it sounds just like the normal Battle Royale mode, in which 100 players parachute onto a battlefield and duke it out until only one player (or squad of teammates) is left standing. In this new mode, however, there will be a single Infinity Gauntlet weapon on the map. The player that finds it -- and the Infinity Stones in it -- first will become the Mad Titan himself. If the in-game Thanos is anywhere near as dangerous as his on-screen counterpart, that should lead to a pretty big advantage.

EW says that Infinity War co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo played a lot of Fortnite whenever they took breaks from editing the movie. From there, they sought out Donald Mustard at Epic and started talking about how cool a mashup would be.

Fortnite's "Infinity Gauntlet" mode will be available on all platforms where you can play the game -- which is most of them: iOS, PS4, Xbox One, PC and Mac.
