Nintendo is bringing 'Mario Kart' to phones

Nintendo clearly isn't done experimenting with mobile games. Following the middling success of Super Mario Run, the big success of Fire Emblem Heroes and the as-of-yet-unsure success of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the acclaimed video game publisher has announced Mario Kart Tour for mobile device.

Interestingly, Nintendo's announcement calls it a "mobile application," which doesn't mean it isn't a game, but the choice of words is peculiar. The only other information revealed is that the app will be released "in the fiscal year ending in March 2019," which means you could be waiting more than a year to get your hands on it.

Nintendo is celebrating high profits (up 261 percent year-over-year) in large part because of the success of its latest hardware, the Nintendo Switch. The system, which doubles as both a handheld game device and a console that can connect to your TV, has already outsold its predecessor, the Wii U, after less than a year on the market.
